TIMELINE:
September 1970
Captain's Briefing:
An Intel
specialist from the CIA called Talbot briefed you on this
mission. Apparently some red-blooded American boys are fighting
alongside NVA and the VC right now. There cross over could be due
to extensive mistreatment or it could have been more voluntary.
Some of these turn coats are so brazen they have been seen
actually take R&R in some of the coastal bases right among the
GI’s. This is really a pretty embarrassing situation waiting for
a place to happen. The Pentagon doesn’t want it to get that far.
We have
intelligence that two turn coats, one white and one black guy,
called Salt and Pepper are with the NVA north of the DMZ right
now, resting and preparing for further operations in I corps.
Just north of Dong Hoi is an airport, the Giang river lies to the
south. Here is what we have planned so far, We have two
locations we think these guys are holing up. At least one is
believed to be in a particular bunker complex near the airport.
The whole thing is being run by MACV-SOG. A special operations
group team (not the players SEAL team) of three Americans (Green
Berets) and several AVRN have been put together for this mission,
we re going to HALO them into the airfield and try a snatch. We
plan to give the NVA a big surprise. The hit will go down at the
end of the day, when all the enemy soldiers are in for the
night. That way the HALO Team hit the ground at night and help
them evade. However before the HALO team goes in we have White
House approval for a B52 strike in retaliation for gunning down
one of our unarmed reconnaissance jets yesterday. The HAL Team
will jump just after the last bombs are released from C141
Starlifter. Any NVA on the site will be in shock from the
massive bombing, still covering in their bunkers if they have any
sense at all, some will be walking around dazed in the smoke and
rubble, bleeding from the ears, noses and mouths and almost deaf
with mild concussion. Due to the extremely anti-air capability
in and around the airport and also a helicopter would be
tantamount to an invasion the HALO team cannot be extracted by a
slick, therefore they will have to take the team out by boat,
that is where the SEAL come in. Your mission to link up with the
fleeing Berets, provide some support to slow down pursuit and then
escort the Berets and hopefully the prisoners to the shore for
extraction.
There is also a
second target for your SEAL Team, an independent and reliable
source says she got a report from a relative of hers that lives in
a village called Phu Hoi. It is extremely close to the water and
directly east of the airfield. Well, the reports indicate that
the white guy is spending nights at the village and goes to the
airfield during the day. If you can’t bring them out, no one
wants to see or hear anything about them again, ever. Because it
might well prove impossible to do a snatch on this target, your
SEAL team is joined by a Sniper Pair from the USMC. We expect
that when the B52’s hit the airfield, Salt will leave the village
probably with a small escort, this is when to make the snatch or
assassination from the sniper, Do not hit the target before the
bombs explode because that could compromise the HALO landing
mission. Once you have executed this part you are to move
quickly towards north of the Giang river and the airport to link
up with the Green Berets.
