Fun Game Ideas for your Event

No matter if you are organising a birthday party, a vacation care excursion, or even a corporate event, here are some simple game ideas to ensure your event is a success.

At the start divide the players into two teams. If you have children of various ages, e.g. for a summer camp or vacation care, you might like to separate the group into divisions:

  1. Two teams of young ones-Prep, Grade 1 & 2
  2. Two teams of middle school-Grades 3 & 4
  3. Two teams of senior school-Grades 5, 6 & 7

Run Sheet Suggestion

  • 5 min (max!) briefing on how to use the phasers.
  • 2 x Elimination (aka Death Match) - first game about 5 minutes, then change ends and repeat.
  • Drinks Break
  • 2 x Defend the Base - approx 10min each, one team defends a fortification (e.g. cubby house) while the other attacks. Then swap roles.
  • Drinks Break
  • 1 x Capture & hold - approx 10min, each team starts at opposite ends of the playing area, both attack a central fortification.
  • 1 x Relic Raider - treasure hunt! (approx 7mins)
  • Open presents, have refreshments, and cake.
  • 1 x Elimination game - finale - Dads versus the Kids!

Each phaser comes pre-set. So all you need to do is turn the phaser on with the key and pull the trigger and it will give you a few second count-down, then it is ready to go! There is no need to chance the settings or open the case of the phaser.

GAME: RELIC RAIDERS
Relic Raiders is a popular game. It is a new take on an old favourite: the Treasure Hunt! Before the participants arrive hide several items around the playing area. The props can be themed to keep with the event. Ideas include:

  • a blue scarab (an Egyptian artefact prop) here's a design to print out, cut it out and colour it in, then stick it on top of a small box.
  • a toy treasure chest
  • a treasure map or secret letter like the one pictured.

The team that finds the most props, wins. The gamers can, of course, help create the playing area but should not be allowed back in the area after the the relics have been hidden. In the game instructions make sure each participant understands they cannot move a relic back to their base while "de-activated". If they are de-activated while holding a relic, they must to drop it immediately. Gamers are not to snatch a relic from another "activated" gamer on the opposition team. This game should be run for no more than 5 minutes. The medic boxes should be set to provide re-activations for 3 minutes or for a limited number or re-activations.

GAME: ELIMINATION
This is a simple, ELIMINATE THE OTHER GUYS mission. It is a great first game. Just about everybody has an itchy trigger finger when they first arrive. And this game is perfect to release some tension. Roughly equal team sizes. Teams start at opposite ends of the playing area. Each team gets unlimited re-activations from their base (where they started from) and everyone gets 5 hit points (hits they can take before they must go back and get a re-activation). The medic box (or master controller) counts the number of re-activations. The winning team is the one with least re-activations. You can also vary this game by limiting the number of re-activations. The game usually goes for 10 minutes. This game is a great warm-up/ice-breaker because every gamer, plays the whole game and its very forgiving of mistakes.

Run this game first. with each team having a turn from each end, then while the gamers are having a break, secretly place the relics around the area and then run relic raiders
