August Bush
Tournament - Gold Coast
A clan war tournament is tentatively
scheduled for the morning of August 25th at Thunderbird
Park. The tournament will use heavily extended boundaries so
that much of the terrain will be more rugged than usual and less
known to the regulars.
Squad sizes will be between 7 and 10
soldiers. The mission will almost see a tough hill assault,
designed to test the players endurance, character, leadership
and skill. A detailed description of the mission and boundaries
will be released in the August ezine and also will be posted on
the web site. Interested Clans should email
peter@battlefieldsports.com to reserve your place.

News on
Vietnam LARP and Paranoia LARP
In the Elite Session Saturday nights,
Laser Skirmish has been throwing some incredible difficult and
realistic Vietnam Live Action Roleplays at the players to really
test their courage, stealth, intelligence and team work. A good
example is 34 Alpha, background at http://www.lasertag.com.au/missions/NamRecon/34alpha.htm
These LARPs typically take about 90
minutes to play and require the players to make no mistakes in
order to survive. In the 34 Alpha mission, out of our best
squad, only the ex-legionnaire played by the Phantom survived,
although they did managed to destroy the switch house.
Saturday 20th July in the Elite
Session we are running "Bring on the Clones", a live Paranoia
LARP. Every player gets 6 clones, meaning they can die 6 times
before their whole clone family is eliminated. Paranoia is based
in Alpha Complex where are paranoid and really quite insane
central computer runs the place and the clones are agents
(called trouble shooters) of the computer. Every one is happy
in Alpha Complex, the computer says so...Players
interested in playing either an actor role (NPC) or taking on a
Clone (player character), please email Peter ASAP at
peter@battlefieldsports.com. This is required because the
character backgrounds are indepth (and secret) and need to be
read beforehand.

New
Hampshire Battlefield Opens by
Nadine Lewis
We had our Opening Day on July 4th, complete
with cookout and fireworks. A large group
played in temperatures hovering around 114 degrees Fahrenheit
(45 degrees Celsius),
it was quite an experience. All the players that attended on opening day
have returned to play again, bringing friends along.
A few of the people are avid paintball players and were extremely
excitedabout the technology of the laser guns. The distance and accuracy
were noted as the top features. One
player that deserves mention is a 16 year
old male who played for 6 hours with a cast on his broken right hand and
would only use the Morita.
Our mission areas are coming along. We currently have 2 forested
playing areas, one open area, and a dense pine tree field (max height of
trees is 9 ft) that is being cut as a maze. The favorite playing area seems
to be one of the large forested ones. It is divided into zones, complete
with an enemy encampment,
satellite dish and a ridge overlooking the entry roads
(an excellent sniper vantage point). Opening soon will be
another
field with a bridge spanning a ravine, allowing for some interesting missions.

New Etreme
Supair Field in Canberra by Emma Darby
Canberra have just purchased the first
in Australia xtreme supair field. This is a field that has blow up
barricades which is the same material as a jumping castle.
This field was originally used for
paintball games. Laser Skirmish is being promoted around the
ACT schools / expos/ fetes. Laser Skirmish in the ACT
is picking up more interest & we are have a new package structure
change to lower the minimum time for a group to be 30min to cater to
let people try it out and then of course they are hooked. We have 18
fields now to complement the game & are working on upgrading the
facility as well.

Exciting
Addition to the Laser Skirmish Arsenal
The latest
addition to the laser skirmish Armoury is the new "Claymore"
mine. This unit operates from a 20 metre cable connected to a
black box and has 3 forwarded powerful emitters and one less
powerful rear emitter. The unit continuously for 4 seconds and
therefore is quite capable of making 2 hits on a viper unit. The Claymore is designed to be used in ambush and base defence
situations. The 3 forward emitters provide an incredibly wide
short range effect that can easily strike many enemy soldiers at
once.
